A traditional 401(k) lowers income tax but not Social Security or Medicare. Health, dental and vision premiums and HSA contributions taken through a cafeteria (Section 125) plan lower both.

Georgia 2026: HB 463 (Georgia Economic Growth and Tax Relief Act of 2026, signed May 2026) cut the flat rate to 4.99% from 5.19% and raised the standard deduction to $15,000/$30,000 and the dependent deduction to $5,000 for 2026 (earlier sources incl. Tax Foundation still show 5.19%, $12,000/$24,000 and $4,000). There is no separate personal exemption. The new tips and overtime exclusions (up to $1,750 each) and the retirement exclusion are not modelled. Federal tax is 2026 withholding (IRS Pub. 15-T), not your final tax bill.

It uses the IRS Publication 15-T percentage method that payroll software uses for federal withholding, and Georgia's 2026 tax rules (checked 2026-10-07). Your employer may round each step or use the state's own withholding tables, so expect small differences.
