Three steps from statement to books

01

Add your statement

Download a PDF, CSV or Excel statement from your online banking and drop it in. Password-protected PDFs work too.

02

We read the table

LedgerLift finds the date, description, money in/out and balance columns, then checks every amount against the running balance.

03

Review and send

Fix any categories, check rows marked ⚠, then export to Excel or CSV, or draft an email to your accountant in one click.

Your statement never leaves your device

Everything happens inside this browser tab. There is no server to upload to.

✓

Processed locally

Your file is read, and the Excel file built, by your browser using open-source libraries (Mozilla pdf.js and SheetJS) bundled with this page. Nothing is uploaded.

✓

Nothing is stored

Transactions live only in this tab’s memory. Refresh or close the page and they’re gone. No cookies, accounts or saved settings.

✓

Passwords stay private

A PDF password is used once to open the file on your device. It is never saved or sent anywhere.

✓

You send the email

“Draft email” opens a draft in your own mail app. LedgerLift never sends anything on your behalf.

Help

Which banks are supported?+

Any bank whose statement is a digital PDF (you can select the text) with a transactions table: a date column plus money in/out or amount, and ideally a balance column. CSV and Excel exports from online banking work with most banks.

Why is a row marked ⚠?+

For each row, LedgerLift checks that the amount explains the change in the running balance. ✓ 99% means it matches exactly. ⚠ means it couldn’t be confirmed (for example there is no balance column, or the row has no date), so compare that row with your statement.

It says my PDF has no selectable text+

The PDF is a scanned image, so there is no text to read. Download the statement again from your bank’s website or app, where it’s usually a digital PDF, or choose CSV/Excel.

My PDF asks for a password+

Many banks protect statements with a password, often built from your date of birth, customer ID or part of your account number. Your bank’s statement email usually explains the format. Enter it when prompted.

Can I convert a bank statement to Excel?+

Yes. After extracting, click Export Excel to download an .xlsx file with the same columns as the CSV: date, merchant, description, category, amount and balance. Dates are real Excel dates and amounts are numbers, so you can sort, filter and add up columns straight away. The header row stays visible as you scroll.

CSV or Excel: which should I choose?+

Choose Excel if you’ll work in Excel, Numbers or Google Sheets yourself. Choose CSV if you’re importing into accounting software such as QuickBooks or Xero, which usually ask for CSV. Both files contain the same rows.

How do I send this to my accountant?+

Click Draft email, add their address, edit the message, then download the CSV or Excel file and click Open in email app. Attach the file before sending, because email links can’t attach files automatically.

Can I change categories?+

Yes. Click a row’s category and choose another. Exports and email drafts use your changes.

How do I know no transactions were missed?+

Every row is checked against the running balance, so a missing or misread row shows up as a ⚠ on the rows around it. When a PDF statement prints its total money in and money out, LedgerLift also adds up what it extracted and tells you whether the totals match. Compare the Money in and Money out figures with your statement too.

How are dates like 04/05/2026 read?+

Day and month order is decided once for the whole statement. If any date has a first number above 12 it's read day-first; if the second number is above 12 it's month-first. If every date is ambiguous, LedgerLift goes by the statement's currency: month-first for US and Canadian dollars, day-first for most others. Check the first few dates against your statement.

How are transactions categorized?+

By keywords in the description: salary, interest, bank fees, cash withdrawals, utilities, food, travel, software and more. Transfers (for example ACH, wire, UPI or NEFT) become Transfer in or Transfer out, and anything unrecognized is Income if money came in or Uncategorized if it went out. It's a starting point; change any category before you export.

Is my data kept anywhere?+

No. See Security. Nothing is uploaded, and refreshing the page clears everything.
