Sign PDF

Add your signature to a PDF without printing it or uploading it anywhere. Draw, type or upload your signature, place it on the page with initials, the date or text, and download the signed copy.

How it works

Signing a PDF

  1. Open the PDF. It's read on your device and each page is drawn with PDF.js as you scroll to it.
  2. Create your signature: draw it, type your name in one of three handwriting fonts, or upload a photo or scan (the white paper can be made transparent). Initials work the same way.
  3. Choose Signature, Initials, Date or Text and tap the page where it goes. Drag to move, use the corner handle to resize, and copy initials to every page in one go.
  4. Download. Your fields are written on top of the original pages with pdf-lib and the file is saved as name-signed.pdf.

What ends up in the file

  • Signatures and initials are transparent PNG images made at about four times their size on the page, so they stay crisp when printed.
  • Dates and text are real text in Helvetica, a font every PDF reader has.
  • The original pages aren't redrawn or turned into pictures — text stays selectable, and the file stays close to its original size.
  • Rotated pages and pages whose page box doesn't start at the corner are handled, so each field lands exactly where you placed it.

Date formats

The date field starts on today's date. These are the formats you can choose, shown for 8 October 2026.

Frequently asked questions

Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?+

No. The PDF is opened, displayed and signed entirely in your browser, and the signed copy is saved straight to your device. Your signature is never sent anywhere either. If you tick “Remember my signature on this device”, the signature image is kept in this browser's local storage until you press Forget.

Is a signature added this way legally binding?+

Often, but not always — it depends on the document and where you are. In the US, the ESIGN Act and UETA generally let an electronic signature stand in for a handwritten one when everyone agrees to sign electronically; in the EU, eIDAS treats this as a “simple electronic signature”, which can't be refused just for being electronic but carries less weight than an advanced or qualified one. Some documents (wills, some property and court papers, notarised forms) still need ink or a specific signing process. This is general information, not legal advice: if it matters, ask the person who sent you the document or a lawyer.

What's the difference between an electronic signature and a digital signature?+

This tool adds an electronic signature: an image of your signature, plus any date or text, drawn onto the page. A digital signature is different — it uses a certificate to cryptographically seal the file, so a PDF reader can show who signed it and whether anything changed afterwards. This tool doesn't create digital signatures, audit trails or tamper-proof seals.

How do I sign a PDF on my phone?+

Open this page in your phone's browser, choose the PDF, tap Signature and draw with your finger in the box — the page won't scroll while you draw. Then tap the page where the signature goes, drag it into place, and tap Download signed PDF. Typing your name in a handwriting font is often neater on a small screen.

Can I add the date, or put my initials on every page?+

Yes. Date adds today's date (you can change it and pick a format such as 10/08/2026 or 8 October 2026). For initials, place them once, then under “Copy to” press All pages — or type pages like 2-5, 8 to copy them only there. Text fields are for anything else, such as your printed name or job title.

Why does my already-signed PDF say its signature is invalid after I sign it here?+

If the PDF was digitally signed by someone else, any change to the file — including adding your signature image — breaks that seal, and readers will flag the document as modified. This tool warns you when it finds an existing digital signature. In that case, ask the sender how they'd like you to sign, or use the app that created the signature.

Will my PDF look different after signing?+

No. The original pages are kept exactly as they are — text stays selectable and nothing is turned into an image. Your signature, initials, dates and text are added on top. Rotated pages and pages with unusual page boxes are handled, so fields land where you put them.
